In early 2019, we realised there was a gap in the Malaysian startup ecosystem. Many startups were unable to get beyond ideation and initial product market fit to the next stage of growth. We realised immediately that we needed to help these companies. So in October 2019, ScaleUp Malaysia was born.
As an Accelerator, our focus is not just on helping companies raise their next round. Our philosophy is in building businesses that have high revenue growth and a path to profitability - we call this the Pegasus model.
We want to invest our time, experience and money in Malaysian scaleups poised for growth and regional expansion. We will work side by side with these companies to develop the right strategy and model and then start curating investors and partners for the companies to secure their next round of funding to execute those plans. A serial entrepreneur and the Founder and CEO of Proficeo, Renuka’s experience spans from ecosystem building to coaching programme development. Renu has a keen strategic eye which keeps entrepreneurs focused and while sometimes stern, she always has the best interests for the entrepreneurs she coaches, at heart.
Xelia has always been known for her role in helping develop funding for the start-up ecosystem through her work from MDV to Cradle, where she headed Investments and the Angel Tax initiatives. At ScaleUp Malaysia she works with our companies to help connect them to the right investors. A live-wire by nature, Xelia’s cheerful disposition and charm is the kind of support you need during difficult times.
Our resident hipster, CEO and founder of Vidi, Aaron started his company as Touristly, which was then acquired by AirAsia. A self-professed coffee snob, this seasoned entrepreneur’s penchant for coffee matches his meticulousness at work where he counts commercialisation, communications and business development as his forte.
Andre is the original technopreneur in the team. An engineer by degree, he later built and sold his mobile network engineering software company in 2013. This deep thinker is someone you want on your side with his focus on products and technology, that are the core of disruption today.
